Club News:
Gary Emerson gave us a great presentation in March regarding the Chemung Canal, and this Editor has been noticing fragments of the canal around Big Flats ever since. For more information, please visit Gary's website at http://chemungcanal.netfirms.com/
Lion Bill Powell announced an honor that our Club received recently from the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. In his year as President, King Lion Marshall Updike challenged the members of our Club to help the Food Bank repackage food on a weekly basis. Several Lions answered the call and have been working there ever since. According to the Food Bank, they have packaged over 45,000 pounds to date!
April is shaping up to be a busy month with 3 major projects, two of them being new projects! Our Rest Stop this month at Kanona will be the first time we've attempted one of these in April, and while our April Blood Drive will actually be our second one, the Blood Drive itself is a new initiative this year. Finally, there will be a work party at Camp Badger on the 14th, and this is a continuation of one of our longstanding service projects. Thanks to the organizers of these activities: Lion Lance Muir for the Rest Stop; Lion Al Draht for the Blood Drive, and Lion Gary Bernhardt for the Camp Badger project.

Award from Food Bank of the Southern Tier:
"In Recognition of your dedicated volunteer work at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. In 2006, the Big Flats Lions Club repackaged over 45,000 pounds of bulk food for our neighbors in need. The Food Bank could not repack and distribute bulk food to our network of over 180 hunger-relief agency partners in a timely manner without your help. Thank you, Paul A. Hesler, President & CEO, Food Bank of the Southern Tier."
