Club News:

Our Summer Picnic was a fun-filled success, and three of our guests are now prospective members! 104 chicken dinners were served at the Union School Reunion, and we were told it was our best barbeque yet! Many thanks to all who participated.

Lion Neal Gummoe is currently recovering from knee surgery in the last week of August. There's a lot of rehab work ahead, and he's in high spirits.

Lion Donna Barto will no longer be collecting donations of Campbell's Soup labels, rather, she's found a program sponsored by General Mills that's a better deal. Please look for coupons that say, "Box Top$ for Education" on General Mills products and forward them to Lion Donna. A school district can receive up to $60,000 annually from this program! Details including a product listing are available on the Web at http://www.boxtops4education.com.

Reminder:
A number of members failed to contribute $2 per adult for the August Picnic. Please forward this amount to Lion Norval if you forgot.

Board Action:
A Thank You note was received from Camp Badger for support of the annual raffle. Lion Don Williams has conducted an audit on the financial records for 2001-2002 and all records were found to be in order. "Companions in Service" - On a suggestion by Lion Mike Yanak, our Club will be extending invitations to companions of deceased members for our annual Christmas meeting or awards banquet. We'll be consulting past membership rosters, and we don't want to miss anyone. Please contact Lion Mike if you can think of anyone that would appreciate such an invitation. Sunshine/Hospitality - Board members were urged to inform Lion Jane King of members and spouses who are ill or hospitalized. Portable Trailer License - Lion Al Draht suggested that when the license renewal is due that Ms. Kathy Hughes be contacted to determine if a license is really necessary or just a certificate.

Message from King Lion Rita:
MD-20 Council has voted to make Sept. 11 Lion Blood Drive Day. I would urge all Big Flats Lions that are willing and able to give blood during the coming month. I have been hearing of many drives in both Elmira and Corning so there will be many opportunities to serve our community in this way. -Lion Rita.

Activity Report:

· Three Lions donated 116 hours to the Boy Scouts.
· Three Lions participated in Chemung River Access Survey donating 21 hours.
· Two Lions worked 65 hours at the Steele Memorial Library.
· Two members donated 34 hours to the Big Flats Community Food Pantry.
· Other Lions donated services to the following agencies:
Tanglewood Nature Center - 18 hours
Big Flats Historical Society - 11 hours
Gold Card News - 10 hours
Clemens Center - 8 hours
Youth Talent Showcase - 2 hours
Big Flats Planning Committee - 2 hours
Pennsylvania Corridor 49 Com. - 2 hours
TOTAL - 289 hours

· Prepared and served Chicken Barbecue for Union School Reunion and generated funds for Community Service Fund.
· Operated Coffee Reststop at Campbell on I-86 on August 30, 31 and September 2. Will report results in September report.
· Held summer picnic for members, spouses and prospective members with 47 individuals attending. Expect to gain three or four new members.
· President Rita Dery attended the Cabinet Meeting at Campbell on August 10th.
· Largest Community Service fundraiser is underway - Community Service 50/50.
· Held one Board meeting.
