News:
May
was a busy month and June promises to be busier yet. Upcoming events include a Lions Mint sale,
the
Vintage Car Show Barbeque, Journey for Sight (rained out in
May), the Community Days Barbeque, and our annual Awards
Banquet. Events in
May included 15 hours and $70 in materials to complete the
painting of the Cooper Pavilion roof in Big Flats Community
Park, course marshals for the Susan Komen Walk, and 3 days
manning our Coffee tent at the Campbell rest area (raised $500+
for Community Service Fund!).
The efforts or our club were recognized by 8 year old
Sara Lovell, who drew a fine poster for us. The poster was presented at our May meeting and will be
preserved in our Club archives.
Also at our May meeting, Justice Charles Wood outlined
the NYS Court System and described activities in the Big Flats
Town Court. King
Lion Gary Bernhardt presented Service Awards to Lion Lance Muir
for 10 years and Lion Al Redner for 15 years.
He also presented Lion Mary Ann Balland the 2 Member Key
Award for sponsoring two new Lions.
Congratulations Lions!
Two Big Flats Lions attended the MD-20 Convention at
Binghamton on May 3-5. They
were Lions Rita Dery and Donna Barto.
Board
Action:
Community
Days Float – Lion Al Draht reported that he had received
permission from the Elmira Lions Club to use the Lion and that
we would have to provide insurance to cover its value of
$20,000. There will
also be two “Seeing Eye Dogs in Training” lead by Patricia
and Allen Caldwell following the Lion.
Sales Tax Vendor – Lion Norval Johnston reported that
application had been made to the NYS Department of Taxation
& Finance with an effective date of June 9th
2002. Lion Don
Willams presented the Treasurer with a $28 check for recycled
printer cartridges. Pins
from Lions Cox and Jacobus – Lion Al Draht is to make a
display of the pins and duplicates will be given to Camp Badger
for the pin auction on Lions Service Day. $100 was donated from Community Service Funds to Empire State
Speech & Hearing Clinic for camper supplies. Thank you notes were received from IPDG Jim Killam for
support resulting in 100% DG Award, Boy Scout Troop 87 for
donation, and Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind for $200
donation.
